May 8, 2010 – Despite the torrential rains last weekend and the resulting floods in Nashville and surrounding areas, the folks in Tennessee want you to know that they ARE open for business! According to the state’s tourism website, the Grand Ole Opry may be under water but the show continues on. I have a reliable source who told me that folks from the radio show rowed a boat into the flooded building and plucked the historic microphone out of the water to use it for the broadcast they had just two days after the flooding, at the Opry’s former home in the War Memorial Building.
Many attractions in Music City are open and operating. And much of the state – Chattanooga, the Great Smokies, Gatlinburg, Sevierville, Pigeon Forge – have not been affected. In addition to updated information on Nashville hotels and attractions, you can find info on how to make a donation toward flood relief. So if your plans were to head to Tennessee, stay on course. If you just started thinking about a trip, now’s as good a time as any!
