August 31, 2009 – Labor Day weekend, the official end of summer for many, is next week. Kids will be back to school, pools and beaches will become deserted and the days left to live in your flip flops are numbered. Those of us lucky enough to be able to travel in September will enjoy fewer crowds and waits at restaurants and attractions, as well as cooler temperatures. Not to mention the festivals that spring up all over this time of year.
Check out the September Events Calendar. Whether you’re a food lover, oenophile, book lover or people watcher, you’ll find something to interest you. And getting to the fest may not be as expensive as you might think. Airfares are low, and hotels in most major cities are offering major discounts that haven’t been available in years.
Of course, the best scenario is having a festival near you. In my case, I’ll be spending my Labor Day weekend perusing the stacks and authors at the Decatur Book Festival. Whatever your activity this last weekend of summer, enjoy and stay safe.
